The First Step

So, in evaluating if someone is called to the chaplaincy profession my first step is to ask whether they are already helping people in one fashion or the other. If not, then I tell them to JUST BEGIN. If coming alongside someone who is in pain does not come naturally, than the individual is probably not gifted in this area. I do not recommend launching into the substantial training required to become a Board Certified Chaplain until one has spent some time either as a volunteer or in some other fashion caring for the needs of persons who have experienced a tragedy, serious illness, or loss. Seek to learn whether you can hold the other's heart in your hands, and whether they are comfortable letting you do so.

SO, JUST BEGIN!

Begin your chaplaincy path!
